It was almost four years back when I was packing my bag and getting ready for a new journey of life which was completely new and unexplored by me. At that time I was confused about the new place and the people with whom I was going meet. At that time my dad consoled me referred hostel as “Home away from Home” which made laugh profusely because of his comment.
Looking into the retrospect, these 4 years of hostel life have flown just like the cold wind. Cold wind which feels so good during the summers and stings bitterly during winters. Sometimes you miss it and at other times you hate it. Hostel life has not been much different. I'm still in the hostel, there is still some more time to be spent in this place but i have already started missing it.
For the past four years we have been bitching about the poor maintenance of each and every thing of the hostel, which included the bad infrastructure(absence of tables ,chairs, etc in the rooms ), pathetic condition of the bathrooms and toilets electricity boards and switches in the almost all the rooms. The incredible situation of the mess, food and the messing staffs. There are lots of more things which I, don’t remember right now.
Apart from that there are lots of other things the place has taught me, living away from home, living with people from diverse backgrounds, making our own decisions, the value of money, sharing your room and your personal belongings with the people who are as different from you as bhajji and Symonds. Late night brawls and after that late night movie shows etc.
There are certain thing which I am gonna miss a lot in my life. Those are the things which I won’t be able to experience again in my life anywhere in this whole world. There are sweet memories which will periodically remind me of friends which we made in the hostel, the late night marathon chat sessions, the birthday bumps at 12 in the night, the walk into the college campus in the midnight after getting completely drunk. Having common dinners, watching the cricket matches in the jam packed common room and praying for the team India until it won the 20-20 cricket championship. After that becoming a part of the victory rally. One night stand during the exams.......and lots of other things.........
These are priceless memories which will stay with me forever...bring a smile on my face...a tear in my eyes !!!
